The red brick Mountainside Public School site on
Route 22 was completely renovated in the mid
1980’s to make room for the Mountainside
Municipal building located at 1385 Route 22 East.
In 1925 Mrs. Petersen’s class poses for a photo

In 1912 the Mountainside Public School received
high honors for attendance in the district.

The Locust Public School House as it looked in the
late 1800’s.  The school was located on Route 22 in
front of what is now the Mountainside Community
Mountainside students plant a tree outside
school which is now home to Mountainside
Borough Hall. Mountainside became a National
Arbor Foundation Tree City.
